Apple trying to bring iPhone X compatibility on all iOS apps

  • According to a statement published on its developer page, “Starting July 2018, all iOS app updates submitted to the App Store must be built with the iOS 11 SDK and must support the Super Retina display of iPhone X.”
  • Apple is now demanding that all new apps submitted, should natively support the screen cutout of the iPhone X, and it says so explicitly in an email distributed to developers.

  • the notch is here to stay, and this jibes with KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo numeorus memos to clients that Apple will issue three iPhones this year, and all of them will sport the True Depth camera kit for Face ID, Animoji, and other purposes – even the “affordable” iPhone 9 with LCD display that is expected to sell in the tens of millions this year.
  • However, Apple plans to launch iOS 12 in June, before the July deadline for updating apps with notch-support rolls around.
